Out Of Gas On The DRZ

Have you ever wondered how much fuel is in the reserve on your DRZ400S?

At least 35.8 kilometers. That's how far I had to try to limp my bike home today. I was full throttle up the hills, sideways around the corners and in full tuck position as I did my best impression of Lance Armstrong on the downside of the French Alps. In the end it was more than enough and everything was fine.

I'm talking about my latest FUBAR on the DRZ. I had the afternoon to myself and I thought it might be nice to go have lunch up at a lake about 35 km from my mom and dads house in West Kelowna, B.C. When I got about 2.5 km from the lake the bike started to sputter, I knew that wasn't very good and figured I would be walking at least part way home. So I went the rest of the way up to the lake anyhow and proceeded to enjoy a nice lunch on my own in the beautiful Okanagan air. After that I suited up and got my clutch hand warmed up for the long ride home. I tried my best to carry as much speed as I could around each and every corner while still watching out for oncoming logging trucks and other riders. I spent as little time as possible on the uphill sections and just free wheeled the rest of the way home until I reached freedom.

Moral of the story is be sure that if you are using an odometer or some method other than a fuel gauge to determine your fuel consumption, that you always reset when filling up your tank. Check out the video below if you want to see the ride and as always thanks again for your support.
